Cupcake Picnic Rug

Description:

I made this picnic rug in 2012, adapted from pattern in "Quilt Yourself Gorgeous" by Mandy Shaw. The rug is made from hard-wearing denim jeans and was fairly easy to make. I used 16 squares sewn together and edged with a wide border trimmed with jumbo pink ricrac. The rug is backed in oilcloth with a pink cucpcake design to keep out the damp. I appliquéd on 8 pink cupcakes for contrast, each with a cake case, sponge and then icing decorated with a ‘cherry’ button. I left some of the original jeans pockets for napkins and cutlery..
